Having worked closely with the team at We Hear You for many years, we know how incredibly important the support they offer our community is. And while we've always supported our client's fundraising efforts, made donations and sponsored events, we felt it was time to go a step further. Which is why this year, we decided to make it a business initiative to actively fundraise for We Hear You!

If you’re not familiar with We Hear You, they provide free counselling and emotional support for patients, families, friends and carers who have been affected or bereaved by cancer or any other life-threatening condition across Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire.

The Team

Our group of thrill-seekers included the big man himself, Adam Harling (Managing Director), Jon Tout (Service Delivery Manager), David Carter (Senior Service and SOC Engineer), Shimon Sorga (Technical Manager) and Lily Howell (Marketing Manager).

The challenge

After putting together a fundraising team, we set a target of £2,000. Our team of five volunteers from across the company decided that to achieve this goal; they'd take part in a 10,000ft Skydive.

After hitting their target, the group decided to raise the stakes and jump from 15,000ft, the highest point you can jump from in the UK, doubling our free-fall to a full minute!

The team were due to jump in early June, but poor weather conditions meant they had to postpone. The day finally came on the 13th of July! While it was touch-and-go whether they’d get to jump, they completed their skydiving adventure for We Hear You. The team described the experience as “scary, exciting, and just plain surreal”.

The Result

With the support of family, friends, and lovely clients, they raised an impressive £2,438 for the We Hear You Cancer Counselling! To give some context on how their funds could be spent, £10 will buy books for a child struggling to deal with the loss of a loved one, £54 will pay for one counselling session, and £350 will pay for a 6-week outdoor therapy course for someone affected by cancer.

Having thoroughly enjoyed the fundraising experience and the challenge that came along with it, the team are already thinking about what to do next!
